FTL / Happold

FTL/Happold in New York is the North American base of operations for Buro Happold, a large, international, multidisciplinary consulting engineering practice with offices in United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. They are known worldwide for state of the art engineering design both at the conceptual stage and in the details.

The NY design principals of FTL are:
Todd Dalland, AIA
Mr. Dalland founded FTL Associates, originally Future Tents Ltd., in 1977. Mr. Dalland is a founding Executive Committee member of the Architectural Fabric Structures Institute, 1984 Chairman of the International Symposium on Fabric Architecture, and is a founding Director of Surface Forms Research Group.

Nick Goldsmith, AIA
Mr. Goldsmith joined atelier Frei Otto to work on a new parliament building for the Government of Saudi Arabia. He became design coordinator for King Abdulaziz University Sport Center in Jeddah as well as projects in (then) West Germany. Mr. Goldsmith joined FTL as a principal in 1978. He has taught at the University of Stuttgart, given lectures at The Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies, and is a founding Director of Surface Forms Research Group.
